When an illustrator met a keeper of indigenous stories, the results blossomed into this publication and an inspiring friendship, a friendship of shared knowledge, insights, illustrations, book and a calendar poster. This is the first of a series of intended publications aimed at the sharing of knowledge and understanding of D'harawal Country. D'harawal Country and language extends from the southern shores of Port Jackson (Sydney Harbour) to the northern shores of the Shoalhaven River, and from the eastern shores of the Wollondolly River system to the eastern seaboard.


Frances Bodkin
Frances is a story teller and knowledgeholder of the D'harawal Peoples. She works part-time with the education unit at the Mount Annan Botanic Gardens teaching D'harawal culture and the environment, and also with the Department of Education and TAFE teaching D'harawal language in the south western Sydney region.


Lorraine Robertson
Lorraine has painted and sketched all of her life, and in recent years has embarked on a formal course of study on Natural Histroy Illustration through the University of Newcastle. She is currently undertaking a Doctorate in Design.

Lorraine has been involved in printmaking and papermaking and taught art and Aboriginal education in the Hunter region. She considers it a privilege to be a partner in this publication and the illustrations in this book represent a part of the body of work she has developed to illustrate D'harawal stories and the cultural environment. She considers this work represents a culmination of her interest in, and respect for, Aboriginal culture.
